Chow Chow

The ultimate side dish; Cauliflower, carrots, green, wax, and kidney beans are just a few of the vegetables in our famous sweet and sour brined Chow Chow. In Lancaster County this used to be known as the end of the garden relish – women would clean up the odds and ends of the garden in the fall and mix them in to a sweet vinegary brine. It's been said about a million times that nobody makes Chow Chow as good as ours. Try a jar and I'm sure you'll agree.

Ingredients: Sugar, Water, Green Beans, Wax Beans, Carrots, Cauliflower, Lima Beans, Pearl Onions, Kidney Beans, Red Peppers, Distilled Vinegar, Contains less than 2% of: Salt, Celery Seeds, Calcium Chloride, Disodium EDTA (Plant Based Preservative), Citric Acid.

DESCRIPTION

This unique appetizer makes a great tailgating dish and is sure to spark conversation when you mention chow chow as an ingredient.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 packages Pillsbury crescent rolls
  • 2 eight ounce packages cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (10 oz.) jar Kitchen Kettle Jalapeno Jam
  • 3 ounces pepperoni, sliced in thin strips
  • 1 quart (32 oz) jar Kitchen Kettle Chow Chow, drained overnight
  • 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack Cheese

INSTRUCTIONS

Flatten rolls on cookie sheet, pressing together and baking as directed on package. Cool.

Beat cream cheese and jalapeno jam together and spread over cooled crust. Sprinkle with pepperoni strips.

Immediately before serving, top with drained chow chow and sprinkle with Monterey Jack cheese.

At Kitchen Kettle we refer to our jars using three standard sizes:

  • Half Pints - 8 ounces in volume
  • Pints - 16 ounces in volume
  • Quarts - 32 ounces in volume

We are required to label our jars with the actual net weight of the contents, rather than the volume. You'll notice our Half Pint jars will vary between 8 ounces and 10 ounces in net weight; our Pint jars range from 16 ounces to 20 ounces in net weight; and our Quart jars weigh between 32 and 36 ounces.

Why do the net weighs vary? Although we use the same size jar, a jam made with chunks of fruit will weigh more than a jelly that's made with just the juice of a fruit.

If you have any questions about our jars sizes, we're happy to help! Give us a call at 800-717-6198 or email us at sales@kitchenkettle.com

Chow-Chow & Pickled Red Beets by Joseph Hassan

I ordered it for my 95 year old mother who loves your Chow-Chow and Pickled Red Beets. She's in Assisted Living and doesn't care for all of the institutional food, but she can salvage a bad meal with terrific Chow-Chow and Pickled beets.

Authentic PA Dutch goodies

Love this place. Been in Texas 43 years and was so glad to find Kitchen Kettle. The chow chow reminds me of my nana’s. Got some for me and some for my brother who also moved here. He’s a fan of your bacon dressing which our mom made e try Sunday. Have never been disappointed.
